Today, I went on a 4 hour bike ride with TLau. I measured online, it was 26 miles, but it felt longer than that haha. There were so many hills :/ but it was such a cool route. Clark’s mom showed it to me…she calls it the San Gabriel Valley tour. Basically you go from Arcadia, to Sierra Madre, Altadena, Pasadena, La Canada, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Temple City, and then back to Arcadia.
I find it really pathetic that I can’t post private thoughts here anymore. This blog used to be like…..a place to rant and reflect on my day (well, its still a place to rant…somewhat), but now, its like….so public and open, and not private. I don’t feel comfortable posting thoughts here anymore. What a shame, now I have to get a private tumblr.
"All swimmers, I am going to be looking for you to come back in some sort of shape. You have one week to get in some workouts (can all be done out of the water).
Here are some things to focus on over the next week. Take at least 30 min a day and get some of these things done this week. - running - abs - push ups - shoulder exercises (for those that still have your bands)
For those that can or have access to: - pilates - exercise bike / treadmill (for those that can’t run)”
… I thought as I lounged on Katie’s persian rug. I guess the room was beautiful in its own high-ceilinged, Victorian sofas, kitschy statuettes kind of way, but what really struck me, what really made me sit there on the relatively itchy rug in my skirt that exposed me to an uncomfortable amount of leg-to-carpet-rubage and still experience one of those “moments that take your breath away,” of sheer happiness, of thinking “Damn, it’s beautiful here,” was what was taking place around me.
The night so far had been amazing - seeing friends from high school that I literally hadn’t seen for a year, laughing so hard and so long that I could feel the tears sliding out of the corners of my eyes. I missed these people, these friends who I’d somehow lost touch with over the year despite all our promises of TTYS’s and KIT’s. Eventually, people started saying their goodbyes and heading home, leaving a small contingent of survivors lounging and chatting in Katie’s living room. But these guys’ chats weren’t about school or girls or sports (even thought the Dodgers did manage to factor themselves in once or twice), but - of all things - about quantum physics and consciousness and alternative energy.
THESE the guys who used to (and still do) spend day in and day out playing Starcraft or Warcraft or insert-computer-game-name-here-craft, and punching each other out for the fun of it, and chugging shots. The moment felt part Twilight Zone and part immaculate conception, but man did these guys know what they were talking about! I asked one of them afterwards where he even learns half that stuff and he just replied that he heard about it, thought it sounded interesting, then went online and Googled/Wikipediaed/Youtubed until he knew more or less everything about it.
That kind of curiosity and that kind of intellectual conversation are things I rarely see at my H-bomb of a school (as Pouya referred to for the entirety of the night) and hell, that I wish I saw more of in myself.
So thank you, my SC-playing, vodka-chugging, String Theory-debating buddies … there’s a reason why I miss you and you can bet that I’ll be taking this night with me back to school. (:
I’m actually quite pleased with what Mayor Villarigosa has done with the LAUSD and Partnership Schools. Investing in human capital is our last hope. As GAVIN NEWSOM said,
"The biggest problem in California today, the number one issue for the state, the number one from my perspective, leaps and bounds before any other issue, is the flight of human capital: the fact that we’re losing our talent in this state. To me, that is the most pressing and dominant issue. So when I answer that question, what we absolutely cannot get rid of, it’s investment in people. What I mean by that is public education. What I mean by that is public health care. What I mean by that is investing in workforce training. We led nations in our economic expansion and our economy because we had the strongest workforce. We’ve had it for generations. It still exists. But we’re now not only competing with Bangalore and Beijing, we’re competing with Maryland. We’re competing with folks from Texas, we’re competing with folks from Connecticut, from Massachusetts, and we’re losing our talent. And so we have to address that issue: investing in people, investing in their health and welfare, investing in their education. Those are the issues that for me are musts, that are a baseline, that are my focus in running for governor. So those are the things I will fight for – those are the things that are musts."
I haven’t blogged in like…weeks LOL. I still read EVERY SINGLE POST. yea..takes me a while, especially when im following fuckyeahfacts and they post like every 5 min.
so, since nobody actually reads posts anymore, this is just going to be kinda like my public diary…i guess. if you read this post, you probably wont understand most of it, unless you really know me haha
so yea, i guess this will be just one longass post about my life for the past few weeks.
starting with…sectionals? I think i blogged from there though. whatever. so despite my ranting posts about how much it sucks, it was fun on the overall. I have this love-hate relationship with swim and my swim team, which is impossible to explain. and despite staying up till like 1 (thats effing late for us) to sort out stupid petty 6th grade drama between like these two teenage boys who act like 5 year-olds (btw, i somehow became the like…mediator…yea FML), it was a very memorable trip and it ended on a VERY high note. and i love that trip because that was how we started :)
then came jo’s. ya know, usually, jo’s is like some really big deal to me, but this year, i was effing miserable LOL. I hated it! it was hell to be there. and i swam like shit, so it was just. AGH but whatever. I have to be there anyway. haha the best part was when jeff let me scratch 3 of my events YAY! but then everybody got pissed at me :( hahaha but whatever, i dont give a shit about swim people (minus you).
yay and then six flags!! that was really fun…like the most fun i’d ever had with swim people (this is alot of bitching about swim people LOL). to be honest, i had never been on a roller coaster before that day, and i didnt know what to expect. I thought i would hate roller coasters. im scared of heights!! but one ride on goliath and i was like THIS SHIT IS THE BOMB LOL. we went on like every ride! it was crazy, and soo so sosos fun. roller coasters are fucking awesome. ESPECIALLY X2 OMG. X2 is crazy. as in daniel’s words, “I SHIT MY PANTS!” but roller coasters weren’t the only part that was awesome :)
so the day after, I went to a specialty dentist to get my tooth INTERNALLY bleached. most of you who know me, know that i have like this one really discolored tooth. so i finally went to a dentist to fix it. its not like normal bleaching, because the discoloration comes from the inside, so normal bleaching wont cover it up. and everybody we’ve consulted said that internal bleaching wouldnt work, but we could try it. the only thing we risk is money. so we did. basically, the procedure drills a hole in the back of my tooth, then tries to remove debris, and then they apply like 4 rounds of bleach. and then they put a filling. and it worked! yay.
then the day after, i had dinner with my old coach amber!! she is leaving for texas because of drama between the coaching staff, and im going to miss her so much! She is like the best coach/mentor/friend you could ask for.
oh and LA PAIN QUOTIDIEN IS DELICIOUS!
then was the calphil concert. not as hectic as the last one i went to, but calphil concerts are always hectic, and somehow, every time the douchebag in me comes out LOL and i did sunday clean up.. WHICH SUCKS ASS BTW.
haha what a coincidence, i was just on the phone with nora. oh and is it weird that she texts me? hahaha
so then i went to chicago!! Thats a pretty cool city. I like it there, but its kinda dirty and super urban and idk. but it was cool! i visited university of chicago (which i dont like) and northwestern (I LOVE NORTHWESTERN <33333). and i went to a shitload of museums AND I SAW THE HARRY POTTER EXHIBIT AND I ALSO SAW OBAMA’S HOUSE LOLOLOL
And yesterday, I saw you :) Thanks for last night! hehe
