Well, the past few days have been quite eventful! I’ll try to recap them…
Friday, Clark and I ran about 3.5 miles up in Mt. Wilson on the trail. I love that trail and the incline is ridiculously hard, so it was a good workout. (vlog later)
Saturday was my last Spring Varsity! :( but it was definitely a very fun and successful tournament for Arcadia. The tournament ran on time (for the most part) which is already one of the biggest achievements. Arcadia took home 2nd place in Sweepstakes, had 30 semifinalists (!!!!!), and 7 finalists:
- Alison Chang (6th-Original Advocacy)
- Mary Guyer (4th- Original Advocacy)
- Nancy Xiao (3rd- Original Advocacy, 3rd- National Extemp)
- Jason Ouyang (6th- OPP)
- Gina Oh (3rd- OI)
- Michelle Zhu (7th- OI, 3rd- Duo)
- Ray Chao (1st- Original Oratory, 3rd- Duo)
Personally, I was very satisfied to finally be able to break finals in Oratory, which I haven’t been able to do all year. It was nice to be competitive in the final round again, and I look forward to the rest of the speech tournaments in the year.
For the team, Spring Varsity was largely successful and I’m proud of the progress that many of us have made. It’s crazy to imagine that we’re already on the road to State Quals in just a little over a month. (Spring Varsity vlog later)
Today, I went to Pasadena to compete in the District level of the American Legion Oratorical Contest. In this speech contest, I use about half my Oratory and change the focus to our constitutional duties/obligations. I ended up winning and advancing to the Area level in 2 weeks. And I got $125 bucks :D
But the win story of today comes from when I was walking back to my car. I knew that my parking meter had expired, so I tried to get out of the place as soon as I could. As I approached my car, the cop was in the middle of taking out his notepad of tickets to write me a ticket. I ran up and apologized and got out of it :)
Tomorrow, we have the day off for a “Staff Development Day.” I’m going to use this to catch up on the sleep I have lost in the past few days and get caught up in some various tasks I have been putting off (i.e. thank you cards for teacher recs, planning speech/mock trial trips, etc.) It’s nice to have a day to kind of decompress, especially since this weekend has been really busy and hectic.
Oh and I got a new phone! :D Finally haha my old phone was beat up and outdated. I got a T-Mobile MyTouch 4g. I’m very happy with it so far…there’s so many functions and it’s really easy and convenient. I’m late to jump into this smartphone market but we’ll see how it goes :P
I’m uploading over an hours worth of footage from the past few days. I’m looking forward to making these vlogs!
