was a long day of flying. Our flight from LA to Shanghai was 13 hours, but we had a 3 hour layover and another 3 hour flight before we arrived in my family’s hometown of Shenyang.
By the time we settled down, it was past midnight local time, which was like 8am in CA, meaning we had been traveling for almost 24 hours.
Oh, and Dwyane Wade of the Miami heat was on my flight in first class… too bad I’m not a big basketball fan.
Anyway, being in a foreign country has immediate differences. Aside from the obvious culture changes, it is also strange to suddenly be very disconnected from living in a society that is constantly plugged in. It felt strange yesterday to board a plane with empty pockets… a book and an ipod replaced my usual phone, wallet, and keys.
This trip will be good for me because I haven’t visited china since 2008. More updates later :D
