ABOUT ME

Twenty-one…

…breaks to Finals.

I just got home from day 2 of my last State Quals. It has been a great weekend…here is a recap of today:

We all got to school at 6:30 again to drive to CSU Long Beach. We got there a bit early and everybody got in a big circle (all 70 speechies) and we did speech warmups and exercises involving tongue twisters, physical movement, and performing the intros of our speeches. It was great to see everybody, competing or not, stand together as a team.

Like I previously mentioned, we had 32 entries in semifinals. For me, Round A was Oratory and Round B was Duo. Both were pretty decent rounds, but at this tournament especially, it’s all up to judge preference so I just tried my best.

This year, we decided to do breaks a little bit differently. Instead of everybody running and checking the traditional way, we all gathered in a group away from the posting area and announced the finalists together as a team.

I’m very glad we made that decision because it was really nice to find out all together as a team and support each other. Ultimately, we had 21 breaks to finals (and 15 state qualifiers).

We ended the tournament with a dinner at CPK (over forty people and a $600 check). It has been a great weekend and I look forward to seeing Arcadia make waves at State Champs in San Diego :)
